Curator of the Fondation Opale, Georges Petitjean is an art historian who wrote his PhD on Western Desert Art at La Trobe University, Melbourne. His main area of interest is the transition of Australian Aboriginal art from its original sites to the art world.

He has lived and worked in Australia for many years and, since 1992, has closely followed the work of many artists in Central Australia and the Kimberley. From 2005 to 2017, he was curator of the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art (AAMU) in Utrecht, the Netherlands. In 2017, he was appointed curator of the Bérengère Primat Collection. He has directed or consulted on numerous exhibitions in Europe and Australia, and continues to write on Aboriginal art and culture.
